FDI in retail – My solution for FDI problem

FDI in retail – My solution for FDI problem

Of late, if there is one thing which is stopping the business in Indian parliament and running high business in media, then it has to the recent FDI (foreign direct investment) regulation in retail. There has been a lot of being discussed and opposed about implementing the FDI in retail. Before I proceed further, let me give a brief introduction about it.

So far, Indian law does not allowed any multi brand foreign companies like Wall mart, Tesco e.t.c., to sell their products to the end users directly. And the single brand foreign companies are also allowed only to have 51% stake hold. The new law, which the government has proposed will allow these multination brands to sell their products directly to the end users and can invest in the retail sector in India.

Pros for this law

For India:

è The investments will increases, which will lead to increase in GDP and other factors.

è Increases the number of jobs.

è Can aid famers, as there will be huge competition and demand for goods.

è A giant step forward in retail sector

For common people:

è We will have different options of shopping, most of the foreign products will be cheaper.

è Soon we might have big sellers setting up branches in all major areas, which mean easy access for all in areas nearby.

è Probable reduction in price because of competition and more offers.

Cons for this law

è All local small scale retail business will be affected.

è People depending on these local small scale businesses will be affected.

è The distribution and dominance of Foreign products will be more than the local products.

In a paper based profit & loss calculation, this FDI will always end in profit for India. India cannot afford to lose the huge investment, which will come through this, but on the other side, India cannot do this in compensation of spoiling thousands of small scale business & its dependent people. A considerable solution has to be done to compensate both, and my view of this compensation is penned below.

My solution - Doing an area action like 3G (No I did not mean the scandal happened like 2G J)

Government can adopt the similar procedure like spectrum distribution, where the areas can be divided and then each area can be actioned. Only the sanctioned party can setup store in that area. This will avoid too multi brand shopping stores to be in one place and killing the business of local and at the same time, it will allow these multi brand store to function, allowing the FDI to flow through. Some more ideas are

è Areas only over and above a fixed sized of population, say 1 lakh, and should be sanctioned to have these stores.

è An area should be sanctioned to only one or maximum two different parties.

è Only one store should be allowed for a particular area say one store for every 5km.

è The amount obtained from the area action will be another earning for state and central govt, which can be used for that area development.

è On top of this, if a product sold by these companies is developed or produced in that area, then the particular percentage of that product sold in that store, should be bought from those in that area. For eg, if an area produces turmeric and the store is selling turmeric, then at least 10% of the turmeric sold in their store should be from that area. This will improve local businesses.

By this way, we can allow both FDI in retail and also improve the local small business as well. Your comments are welcome.

Life with options

Why we are worried?
I always wondered why we feel that life in childhood, school & college, what we term as golden period, were always better & happier than the life after those periods.
Why we weren’t worried too much in those days and why we are worrying too much now.

The secret behind “Happily Ever after period”
One thing which struck my mind was, in that golden period, we never had options to choose from in our life.

In childhood, we never had situation, were we had options to choose from. Only thing to do was to play, so we did it and lived happily ever after.

Most of us never had an option in school days other studying till 12th standard. So we did it and lived happily ever after. In college days too, the same situation more or less continued.

We were never really left some options to choose from in most of the life. In simple terms, we were living a life without options. And we accepted it as such and never complaint about it and lived happily in it without worries.

Options & worries came together.

Now in this age, where most of us are leading a life, which we dreamt of or working hard to lead the life, which we are dreaming of, life is full of situations attached with several options. Whenever, we face a situation, we are left with several options to handle the situation.

The option, which we select to handle the current situation, will lead to another situation in life and that situation is associated with several options again. And this chain continues.

Now what is happening with most of us is, after we adapted an option to handle a situation, we are not settled with it. We are still continuing to think & analyse about the other options, which we did not select. And our monkey mind, sometimes thinks in a way that the other option, would have been better than this.

When we lead to other situation, because of the option selected, most of us think that this situation arise, because we choose a wrong option in the previous situation and the other rejected option is now felt as better one. And this thinking continues thorough out.

I would say in the current age, most of us spend a considerable amount of time on analysing the option for the current situation or the future situation and in that time period also, we worry about the consequences to be faced or faced by the option taken by us.

So I think, had the worries started in one’s life, the movement he faces a situation with options to solve it.

Probably, life would have been like “happily ever after”, if we had no options to select from. But, if that has been the case, life would have been monotonous and boring and with no challenges.

Yes I Envy!!

Yes I envy,
Not the higher salary & higher position, which my batch mate are having,
But the laugh & joy, which my next door children are having.

Yes I envy,
Not the joyful day in abroad holidays or hill side/ beach side resort.
But the joyful day with my entire family, in my sweat home.

Yes I envy,
Not the mind to achieve higher goal, set by the social & career needs
But the mind to enjoy the current things I have got.

Yes I envy,
Not the optimistic mind
But the mind, which is neither optimistic nor pessimistic.

PS: Forgive the grammatical errors.

Started with a great show!!

Started with a bang!!

For me, 2011, started with a great firework show at Sydney Harbour bridge. Hope the year is as enchanting as the firework show...

I was one among the thousands of other tourists, from across the globe, who enjoyed the grand show in the world’s capital of the new year eve celebration, that is how they market the show here.... I was there from 4PM, the 8 hours long wait was greeted by a grand show, which lasted for about 14 minutes. One has to be there so early, to enjoy a good view of the bridge, else you got to compensate on the view. I did compensate it last year, but not this time.

Some of the snaps & video of the show....

Part of the crowd gathered for the show...

The gang, which made me to feel that 8 hours was not too long....

No, No, this is not our T.Nagar streets.. the famous George street which leads to Sydney bridge...

The Good, Bad & ugly of 2010.

While I share the initial moments of 2011, I would like to recap the best and worst moments of the 2010, according to me!!

The Bad & Ugly.. (not in any order)

1) What did Delhi, Mumbai & Chennai had in common this year? No, it is not the development happening there or the IPL matches... Each of these cities are associated with a popular scam of the year

a. Delhi – CWG Scam

b. Mumbai – Adarsh Society scam

c. Chennai – 2G scam.

2) Grand audio release function...

No I am not talking about any movie audio release, I am talking about the Radia tape release, which showcased, how capitalist determine from the newspaper headlines to cabinet ministers.

3) Mess before setting up the red carpet!!

Overall drama surrounded before the start of the CWG games, which instead of showing India’s strength to the world, showcased the corruption and bad preparation, we have.

4) The rise, which is not good!!

The increasing prices of the vegetables, fuel and other products, which makes living difficult for the common man.

5) The rise of internal threat...

Increasing attacks and danger from Naxals.

The Good!!

1) Increasing support of international communities for India.

2) For a change, we jobs were created in US because of the collaboration with Indian company. I am talking about the jobs created in US by the deals signed during the Obama visit.

3) The rise of new heroes!!

Sportsman from all the discipline, who made the Indian flag fly high in CWG, Asian games and other world championship tournaments. Our Indian cricket team, which maintained the No.1 spot in test cricket.

4) UID project.

Implementation of UID project, to provide unique ID for every Indian.

5) The steady progress of ISRO.

And as the final touch..

One thing which attracted / engaged many people's lifestyle in 2010 is FACEBOOK!!

Let us put all the bad things aside and hope this 2011 will be a great year for everyone of us...

Let 2011 be a year of less scam for the India :)
